It has been a tough year for the preserve and most of Texas. We have had little or no rain since September and most of the ponds and lakes in the hill country are drying up. Wildlife has had a stressful season due to the lack of water, food and high tempertures. Birds are staying close to the water and hiding out in the heat of the day. We have noticed a larger number of Northern Bobwhite Quail this year. We have kept track of 8 groups around the preserve, even getting to see the babies this year.

Let's hope we get rain soon.
