Bill Carr Botanist for The Nature Conservancy and Jason Singhurst Conservation Scientist for Texas Parks and Wildlife authors of the new book Rare Plants of Texas explored the canyons and fields looking for rare plants.
They found several interesting species that we added to our plant database started in 2005. Cynthia and I enjoyed our day climbing up and down the canyons looking for new plants and learning a great deal.
Bill and Jason will be leading a Native Plant Class on May 3rd 2008. Check the workshops and tours page for details.
2 males so far have started setting their territories in each canyon. Last year we had 5 territories for GCW and 3 Black-capped Vireo. As I picked a spot that overlooked the canyon and started to set up, I turned and sitting 12 feet away in an Ash Juniper was a beautiful Male Golden-cheeked Warbler just watching me. Of course, my camera was sitting on the ground so I just watched him as he watched me. After sitting for several hours and the sun getting high overhead one came in close again, and there was only time for 2 images. Click here for GCW image.
